Summer Dance

Village marriage , pandit came read the old leaf book,sound of conch shell , announced the date.

Women sitting in circle , pretty fingers lovingly touching the dholak , thik thik sound

Thak thak , sound beat besting with the crooked song of ancestors time.

Ladies singing though rough voice but tune is melodic, ladies dancing on it.

We learn , play with marigold flower, flower in petals thrown in air , swinging sailing.

With the air falling on girls hair , fusion of gold dash on pretty dark hair , on moon face.

Running around playing our own marriage, doll getting with doll , we were on both sides.

Mimic of all adult function , walking dancing in mother's stall.

Demanding food , water , drama of marriage fix played in hall.

Bridegroom arrive with party all the boys dancing singing on the road.

Groom local boy arriving on the donkey, father mother part were on buffalo.

Girls lips with lipstick streching to nose , powder on the cheek , mixing with maskara.

Celebration begins and we run away as the about to priest never arrives.
